Item A QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE ROLE OF BCRYPT HASHING TECHNIQUE IN SECURING SENSITIVE INFORMATION IN BANKING MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS(Gretsa University, 2025-10) NJOROGE, PETER CHEGEAs Kenya's banking industry expands rapidly, the security of confidential data has become a critical concern. This study provides a quantitative analysis of the role of the bcrypt hashing algorithm in securing sensitive information within banking management systems. A structured questionnaire was administered to a sample of 42 IT and security professionals at a leading bank, achieving an 84% response rate. Statistical analysis revealed that a strong majority of respondents (76.2%) agreed on bcrypt's significant positive impact on data security. Furthermore, the implementation of salting techniques demonstrated a very strong positive correlation with enhanced security outcomes, with an average Spearman’s correlation coefficient of 0.95. Regression analysis confirmed that robust system integration practices are a critical predictor of bcrypt's effectiveness. The study concludes that the adoption of the bcrypt algorithm, when reinforced with systematic salting and secure integration protocols, provides a statistically significant enhancement to the security of sensitive banking information. These findings offer empirically supported recommendations for policymakers and financial institutions seeking to develop more secure and resilient banking systemsItem A QUANTITATIVE STUDY ON ADOPTION OF EDGE COMPUTING FOR REAL-TIME DATA ANALYSIS IN INTERNET OF THINGS NETWORKS: A CASE OF KENYATTA NATIONAL HOSPITAL(Gretsa University, 2025-10) WANJIKU, ROSEMARY MIGWIThe increasing adoption of IoT technologies in healthcare led to the generation of large volumes of real-time data that required fast and efficient processing. Traditional cloud computing approaches often faced latency and bandwidth limitations, which made it difficult to support critical healthcare operations. This study analyzed the role of edge computing in enhancing real-time data analysis within IoT networks, focusing on Kenyatta National Hospital as the case study. A quantitative research design was employed, and data was collected through structured questionnaires and system performance records from ICT personnel, biomedical engineers, and healthcare practitioners. The study examined variables such as system response time, reliability, data security, and operational efficiency. To analyze data, descriptive and inferential statistics methods were used. The findings indicated that adoption of edge computing improved data processing speed, reduced latency, and enhanced network reliability in IoT-based healthcare systems. The study concluded that the integration of edge computing into hospital infrastructure strengthen real-time decision-making and patient care. It was recommended that healthcare institutions adopt edge computing technologies to complement existing cloud systems to improve service delivery.Item AN ASSESSMENT OF FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE THE DELIVERY OF MATERNAL HEALTH AWARENESS BY CHVS IN THIKA SUB-COUNTY, KIAMBU COUNTY, KENYA(Gretsa University, 2025-10) AKINYI, IRENE; NYERERE, IAN; NGIGI, IRENEThis paper examines the involvement of the community health volunteers (CHVs) in improving maternal health Awareness in Thika, Kiambu County, Kenya, given the perennial maternal health problems in low-middle-income countries. Although the communities CHVs work with need them to bridge gaps between service delivery and communities, little is known regarding how CHVs’ education, training, age, and engagement in activities within the selected communities affects their ability to facilitate awareness of maternal health. Specifically, an aim is to evaluate factors as education, training, age, and engagement and the ways they influence maternal health Awareness. The study therefore present hypothesis, claiming that there are no correlation between education, training, age, community engagement and awareness on maternal health among the CHVs. This research design adopted a descriptive survey design the research targeted about 100 CHVs and mothers in Thika district and used a stratified sampling method in order to get equal representation. Structured questionnaires and triad-based key informant interviews for quantitative collection methods. The hypothesis was tested using both descriptive and inferential statistics, with chi-square as the statistic of interest for the latter while content analysis and thematic coding for the qualitative data. The reliability was tested internally via Cronbach’s alpha and is set at a minimum of 0.7 validity was tested internally via pilot testing and expert review. These comprise of issues to do with consent and approval from the applicable review boards. Therefore, by filling the gaps found out in the existing literature, it is believe that this study shall provide useful information to the health policymakers, non-governmental organizations, and training programmes so that maternal mortality rates down in Kenya and quality of maternal health services improved. For the past few decades, telecommunication firms, fintech companies, and other industries have relied heavily on advanced technology. Fast internet speed is the need of the hour, and every major telecommunication company is pushing to make it even faster. To keep up with the constantly changing world, we require more and more technology. The fifth-generation (5G) wireless technology has arrived, with the primary aim of increasing capacity, higher data throughput, lower latency, and quality service. Many studies have been conducted on the adoption and implementation of 5G wireless technology in different industries. For instance, researchers have explored the factors that affect adopting 5G technology in healthcare, agriculture, and other sectors. Few studies have examined Kenyan telecom firms' 5G wireless adoption. Telecommunication businesses in Kenya have yet to fully implement 5G wireless technology, thus variables that may affect its adoption must be examined. To leverage 5G's benefits, you must understand its problems and opportunities. This study examines Kenyan telecommunication firms' wireless technology adoption variables to close this gap. This study examines individual traits, technological and organizational factors, and cybersecurity issues that may affect Kenyan telecommunication companies' 5G wireless network adoption. Telecommunications companies select middle- to senior-management employees using stratified sampling. Specifically, the researcher is to dig deep into the matters of hostilities; the after math of the insecurity on food security; and ways that can very effective to reduce the conflicts or to nullify it completely to return the community to the peaceful norms. The researcher majorly took inconsideration of the descriptive survey design to this study to gain more data to make the study a success. Study areas that the researcher choose was a location that mostly had seen the after result of continues disagreement between the communities and the wards are; Wabera, Bulla, Pesa, Chari and Cherab wards in Isiolo County. Coming to analysis the data for the study was collected on one-on-one interview session with the members of the affected community, active discussion in communities formed focus groups and captured chosen key statements in the interview sessions. We have this sample techniques known as the Systematic was used to choose the household that we used in the study to collect the data, a total of about 1000 of them. 100 households received the questionnaires distributed. A descriptive research design was used, and structured questionnaires were administered to ensure comprehensive and valid responses from all participants.Item ASSESSMENT OF THE SECURITY ISSUES ARISING FROM ADOPTION OF CLOUD COMPUTING: A CASE OF KENYA REVENUE AUTHORITY, THIKA BRANCH, KIAMBU COUNTY, KENYA(Gretsa University, 2025-10) GATHONI, MERCY KINYUNYECloud computing is playing a major role in transforming Kenya’s public sector, helping institutions like the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) improve efficiency and deliver better services. But with this shift comes serious security concerns such as data breaches, insider threats, and challenges around regulatory compliance. This study explores these issues at KRA’s Thika branch, focusing on three key areas: how well the organization complies with industry security standards, how it handles insider threats, and how effective its employee training and awareness programs are. Using a descriptive research design, data was gathered from 97 respondents through structured questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS and regression models. The results showed strong positive links between all three factors and how cloud security risks are perceived—compliance (R² = 0.888), insider threats (R² = 0.920), and training awareness (R² = 0.912) all had a significant impact. Spearman’s correlation and Chi-Square tests backed up these findings, leading to the rejection of all null hypotheses. The study concludes that strong compliance practices, proactive strategies to manage internal threats, and continuous employee training and awareness are essential for secure cloud adoption. It recommends regular audits, automated monitoring tools, and collaboration across departments to help protect sensitive data and build a more resilient organization.Item CHALLENGES FACING DIGITAL LEARNING IN UNIVERSITIES IN KIAMBU COUNTY, KENYA(Gretsa University, 2025-10) NASEI, MERCY; CHERUTO, BRILLIANT; KEMUNTO, PHIBIAN; CHEPKOECH, MERCYDigital knowledge has developed as a vital component of higher education, particularly in the wake of technological advancements and disruptions like the COVID-19 pandemic. However, universities in Kiambu County, Kenya, face significant challenges in implementing effective digital learning systems. The study aims to identify and analyze these challenges, focusing on technical challenges, financial constraints, and content coverage and deleverage. This will be through questionnaire interviews to gather information from the institutional university students, lecturers, and IT staff in selected universities in Kiambu County. Major findings suggest that insufficient internet access, restricted availability of digital devices, and insufficient training for educators are major barriers to successful digital learning implementation. The research underscores the need for target interventions, including investment in digital infrastructure capacity-building programs and inclusive policy frameworks to enhance digital learning in higher education. These findings provide a foundation for policymakers and university administrators to address the digital gap and improve education quality in Kiambu CountyItem CHALLENGES FACING THE TRANSITION FROM THE PRIMARY TO JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL IN ST JOSEPH KEBURUNGA PRIMARY SCHOOL NYAMARAMBE SUB- COUNTY, KISII COUNTY ,KENYA.(Gretsa University, 2025-10) NYANGWESO, NAOMYThe transition from primary to junior secondary school (JSS) under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya has presented several challenges to learners, teachers, and education stakeholders. This study investigated the challenges facing the transition from primary to JSS in St. Joseph Keburunga Primary School, Nyamarambe Sub-County, Kisii County. The specific objectives were to examine the influence of school-level factors, student-level factors, family and community support, and general challenges on the transition process. The study adopted a descriptive research design and targeted 98 respondents, including teachers, learners, and education officers. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed descriptively with frequencies, percentages, and mean scores. A response rate of 91.8% was achieved, which was considered adequate for analysis. Findings revealed that while classrooms were fairly adequate (80% agreement), inadequacies were noted in teacher training, staffing, and provision of learning resources. At the student level, learners were academically prepared and motivated, but challenges existed in emotional adjustment and study habits. Family and community support was evident, particularly in parental involvement with homework, yet financial constraints emerged as the most significant barrier (71.1% agreement). General challenges included environmental adaptation, learner anxiety, and the cost of transition. The study concludes that successful transition to JSS is influenced by multiple interrelated factors, with financial constraints and insufficient resources being the most critical. It recommends investment in school infrastructure, continuous teacher training, enhanced guidance and counseling services, greater parental involvement, and financial support mechanisms to ensure smooth transition.Item CHALLENGES OF COMPUTERIZING AND SECURING COUNTY GOVERNMENTS RECORDS A QUALITATIVE STUDY OF KERICHO COUNTY(Gretsa University, 2025-10) KIPNGENO, RONYThis study examined the challenges faced by Kericho County in computerizing and securing its records. The research aimed to identify the specific obstacles, constraints, and complexities encountered during the transition from paper-based record-keeping systems to digital platforms within the county government context. The study adopted a qualitative research approach to gain in-depth insights into the challenges and provided recommendations for improvement. The study was guided by the following objectives: (1) to identify the specific challenges faced by Kericho County in the computerization of its records, (2) to explore the challenges related to the security of county governments’ records in the digital environment, (3) to investigate the impact of these challenges on county government operations and service delivery, and (4) to provide recommendations and insights for improving the computerization and security of records in county governments. The literature review revealed gaps in the existing literature, particularly in understanding the challenges specific to county governments and the security aspects of digital record management. The study addressed these gaps by conducting interviews and focus groups with relevant stakeholders in Kericho County. The data collected were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify common themes and patterns related to the challenges faced by the county government. The findings of this study contributed to the existing body of knowledge on record management in county governments. It provided valuable insights into the practical difficulties, resource constraints, technological limitations, and organizational barriers encountered during the computerization process. Additionally, the study shed light on the security challenges, vulnerabilities, and potential cyber threats faced by county governments in the digital environment. By addressing the identified gaps and providing actionable recommendations, this study aimed to improve governance, service delivery, and data security in county governments. The findings were of value to policymakers, county officials, and other stakeholders involved in the computerization and secure management of records.Item CULTURAL INFLUENCE ON GUEST FOOD CHOICES IN HOTELS IN NAIVASHA SUB-COUNTY, NAKURU COUNTY, KENYA(Gretsa University, 2025-10) NYOKABI, MARY NDIRANGUThis study examined the cultural factors involved that influence the preferred cuisine of tourists at hotels within Naivasha, Kenya. The main objective was to evaluate the effect of cultural background, dietary restrictions, culinary restrictions, and religious restrictions on guest food choice. A descriptive study design was used, and the population of interest was 200 visitors from selected hotels in Naivasha. The sample size of the respondents was determined through Yamane's formula as 133 respondents. Purposive selection was used in choosing the hotels and the corresponding respondents, and simple random selection were used for variety along the age, gender, and nationality variables. Structured questionnaires were utilized for purposes of data collection and were statistically analyzed through descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. The results indicated that culture, special dietary requirements, culinary considerations, and religious affiliation were very significant factors affecting the guests' choice of food. Correlation analysis indicated significant positive correlations between the independent variables and the guest food selection (R-values were between 0.818 and 0.867, p < 0.001). Cultural, health, mode of preparation, and religious dietary considerations all determined the guest choices when eating within Naivasha hotels. The research concludes that guest menu selections are principally influenced by culture and individuality, and hotels need to positively align their menu selections with the varied requirements. It suggests that Naivasha hotels diversify their menu selections by adding locality, global dishes, health, and religious-compliant dishes. Besides, staff education and guest feedback systems ought to be improved upon for elevated quality of service and inclusivity.Item DETERMINANTS OF DEFERMENT OF STUDIES AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN GRETSA UNIVERSITY, THIKA SUB-COUNTY, KIAMBU COUNTY, KENYA(Gretsa University, 2024-07) KIOKO, IREEN MUTHEUThe case of deferment of studies among students at Gretsa University has increased at a very alarming rate in the last 2 years. The study assessed the determinants of deferment the objectives being: to investigate the influence of financial constraints on students' decision to defer their studies, to evaluate the impact of health issues on students at Gretsa University's decision to defer their studies, and to determine the connection between students’ choice to defer their studies and early pregnancy. The study employed a mixed-methods research design. The target population was be 40 students from different schools in the institution and 10 administrative staff, a total sample of 50 respondents was used. Data was collected through the use of questionnaires and was to be analyzed using descriptive statistics that is pie charts, frequency distribution tables, and graphs. Financial constraint was found to be the major determinant of studies deferment and it can be curbed in various ways including students taking part in online jobs like freelancing to earn some extra money. On health issues parents ought to make sure their children are under a medical cover such as NHIF in case of any health emergency. This study aims at finding out possible advantages and difficulties of examining the complex effects of AI on academic achievement at universities. The study will be guided by the following objectives. To investigate how AI technology, affect students' participation, motivation, and engagement in their coursework. To identify and analyse the ethical concerns and psychological impacts associated with using AI in academic settings. To evaluate how AI tools, impact the efficiency of learning processes and administrative tasks in educational institutions. To assess how the use of AI affects students' development of critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. To assure item reliability, the test-retest method will be used.Item EFFECT OF CUSTOMER SERVICE PERFORMANCE ON GUEST LOYALTY: A CASE OF CASCADE HOTEL, THIKA TOWN.(Gretsa University, 2025-10) CHEPCHUMBA, EDNACustomer service performance is a fundamental driver of guest loyalty in the hospitality industry, influencing guest satisfaction, repeat patronage, and word-of-mouth recommendations. Using the SERVPERF model, which assesses service quality along five major dimensions—tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy—this study looks at how customer service performance affects client loyalty at the Cascade Hotel in Thika Town, Kenya. The purpose of the study was to ascertain how these aspects of service quality affect patron loyalty, as indicated by recommendations, return business, and emotional ties to the hotel. Data from 170 hotel guests was gathered using structured questionnaires as part of a quantitative study strategy. To determine the association between service quality aspects and guest loyalty, the data was examined using cross-tabulation techniques, frequency distribution, and descriptive statistics. The findings revealed that responsiveness and tangibles had the most significant influence on guest loyalty, with 76.5% of guests rating responsiveness positively and 67.7% expressing satisfaction with the hotel’s physical aspects. Additionally, it was discovered that assurance and dependability played a major role in fostering guest loyalty by guaranteeing that services were provided consistently and that employees instilled confidence in visitors. Although empathy, which entails individualized care and attention, was important, its influence was not as great as that of other factors. The study concludes that maintaining high service quality standards across all SERVPERF dimensions is essential for fostering guest loyalty. Key recommendations for Cascade Hotel’s management include enhancing physical facilities, improving service reliability, and ensuring staff responsiveness to guest needs. Additionally, investing in staff training programs to improve professionalism, customer engagement, and problem resolution is crucial. The study also suggests leveraging technology, such as digital feedback systems and personalized customer engagement strategies, to improve service delivery. For hospitality managers, this study offers insightful information that highlights the need of reliable, superior service as a tactic for retaining customers and gaining a competitive edge. Additionally, it adds to the larger body of scholarly research on customer service effectiveness and loyalty in the hospitality sector. especially in the setting of Kenya. In today’s increasingly competitive and fast-paced organizational ecosystem, maintaining equilibrium between occupational commitments and personal well-being has become a strategic determinant of workforce efficiency and institutional sustainability. The investigation was anchored on three primary objectives: to analyze the effect of flexible working arrangements on productivity, to assess the extent to which job stress management influences performance, and to examine the impact of organizational support systems on employees’ overall productivity.A descriptive research design was adopted, encompassing a target population of 100 employees across various operational departments within the SACCO. Baseline information was retrieved using structured questionnaires and analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistical techniques, including correlation and regression analysis. The schorlary work outcomes indicated that flexible work arrangements, such as adaptable schedules and autonomy in task execution, significantly enhance productivity by fostering motivation, reducing fatigue, and improving time management. Similarly, effective stress management frameworks were observed to mitigate occupational strain, curtail burnout, and promote concentration. Moreover, organizational support systems—such as welfare initiatives, career progression opportunities, and empathetic leadership—were found to substantially augment employee morale, loyalty, and efficiency.The study concluded that work–life balance constitutes an indispensable pillar of organizational performance within the SACCO sector. It accentuated that employees who experience congruence between their professional and personal spheres tend to exhibit heightened commitment, satisfaction, and output. Consequently, the schorlarly work recommended that management should institutionalize flexible work policies, strengthen stress management programs, and reinforce support mechanisms that prioritize employee welfare. The study objectives were: to identify the learner-centered techniques most commonly used by instructors, determine the frequency of their application, evaluate students’ perceptions of their effectiveness, and identify challenges in their implementation. The Faculty of Education's undergraduate students were the target of the study. Using Yamane's (1967) formula, a sample of 90 students were selected. Structured questionnaires were used to gather the data, and descriptive statistics including primarily frequencies and percentages shown in tables and charts were used for analysis. Students' opinions and experiences were captured by conducting a thematic analysis of the qualitative data. The results revealed the most commonly used learner-centered strategies were group discussions and student presentations. The majority of students concurred that these tactics enhanced participation in class activities, fostered collaboration, deepened understanding, and raised engagement. But the study also pointed out a number of issues, such as packed classrooms, little instructional time, a lack of resources for instruction, and trouble efficiently managing group projects. The study concluded that learner-centered teaching strategies, when effectively implemented, positively impact students’ academic performance and learning experiences. It suggests that universities make investments in sufficient teaching resources, lower class sizes to facilitate more interactive learning, and give lecturers ongoing professional development opportunities in order to increase their efficacy.
