Abstract:
The research study ought to identify the effect of sit down strikes on the production of services at the
Lamu County Government headquarters offices. It was also meant to identify the impact of slow down
strikes on organizational performance lastly the research topic was also meant to identify picketing and
the effects it has on organizational performance. The theoretical framework was derived from functional
and conflict theories. The target population for the research study comprised 100 employees comprising
senior officers and subordinate staff in Lamu county government headquarters offices. A sample size
is a subsection of a population. The researcher applied random sampling to get sample size of 15
employees from total 100 employees at Lamu County Government headquarters. These 15 employees
are above the 10% of population that is suggested by Mugenda & Mugenda (2013) to be acceptable as
a sample. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from the target population. Both
descriptive and inferential statistics were used. The study revealed that sit down strikes lowered the rate
of productivity .it indicated that 80 percent of the respondents supported the finding. The study indicated
that when employees conduct the sit down strikes the operations within the enterprise ceases to continue
because the employees will not be willing to perform the tasks assigned. Furthermore when operations
fail to take place within the enterprise it has a major impact on the productivity of the organization. The
organization will be subjected to major economic loss for example low competitive power and low
profit generation. The study also revealed that both picketing and slow down strikes impact the
organization in a negative manner. Similar to sit down strikes, both slow down and picketing strikes
jeopardize the operations of the enterprise. Also 90 percent of the respondents agree to the phenomenon.
