Abstract:
The research study focused on the factors contributing to low class attendance among students
at the beginning of the semester at Gretsa University. The study however based on the fact that
the institution has it's official opening dates on every semester but majority of students do not
show up as expected. The hypothesis of the study is null. The study will be guided on the
objectives which was to determine the factors contributing to low class attendance among
students at the beginning of the semester, to determine the effects of financial constraints on
low class attendance among students, to examine the effects of peer pressure on low class
attendance among students and also to establish the influence of timetable issues on low class
attendance among students. The study also has literature review which has concerns on factors
contributing to low class attendance among students at the beginning of the semester, theories
used in the study and also identification of the research gap in investigating the factors
contributing to low class attendance. The study area is Gretsa University and therefore the
target population involved the students. Stratified random sampling and simple random
sampling was employed depending on different schools. The data collection techniques used
included the use of questionnaires which was administered to the students and also observations
whereby included monitoring of student's attendance in classes. Data collected was therefore
analyzed and presented on a graph, tables and pie chart based on the variables which included
financial constraints, peer pressure and timetable issues. Finally, there was the summary of the
findings, conclusion and recommendations of the research study which therefore will help in
the further studies.
