dc.description.abstract The aim of this project was to find out participation of female student council leadership: a case of Gretsa university Thika sub-county, Kiambu county. The objectives of the study were be to; to determine the extent to which female students participate in student council leadership, to establish positions held by female leaders in the student council, to identify obstacles to female students’ participation in the student council leadership and to suggest measures that can be put in place to enhance the participation of female students in student council leadership. The study employed descriptive survey research design. Target population was 800 students. Simple random sampling technique was used to sample to obtain the sample size from students. The study used questionnaires to collect data from students and interview schedule to collect data from dean of students. The researchers carried out fieldwork and data collected was sorted out to check errors in terms of completeness and ambiguity. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistic and also qualitative analysis. Considering our data collection results and analysis we found out that, according to GUSA constitution female students are allowed to fully participate in student council leadership but they hold less seats in the council. The findings were suggested to be used by the administration and GUSA to encourage female students to participate fully in student council leadership vying for any position including the chairperson post. In conclusion female students have equal opportunity of participation in Gretsa University Students Association. Therefore, we recommended that, GUSA constitution should be reviewed to make sure there is alternation of the Chairperson yearly in a way that, if a male student is the chairperson the first year the following year it should be a female student as the chairperson and vice versa. This gives them an equal opportunity with their male counterparts. en_US
