ABSTRACT
Cases of bullying have been on the rise in public secondary schools in Kenya. Many experiences
bullying and many other forms of violence on a day-to-day basis within school. Most students in
public secondary schools in Turbo Sub- County, Uasin Gishu County have either been bullied or
have known someone who has been bullied. Therefore, this study aims at investigating the
effects of bullying on students’ academic performance in public secondary schools in Turbo Sub
County, Gishu County, Kenya. The study based on General Strain Theory. This study employed
a descriptive research design. The target population was 5050 respondents comprising of 25
principals, 25 disciplinary masters and 5000 form two students. Simple random sampling method
was used to select respondents from various samples. The sample size was 220respondents
comprising of 10principals, 10 disciplinary masters and 200 form two students. The data
collection tools were questionnaires for the students and interviews for disciplinary masters and
principals. Content validity was carried out to ensure that the instruments were valid and the test
re-test technique was used to estimate the reliability of the instruments. The data was collected
using questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS and discussion and presented using table, piecharts, percentages, frequencies and bar graphs.
